SMC Spain was set up in 2022 by FECYT, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, the public foundation dedicated to catalysing the relationship between science and society in Spain. SMC Spain offers content with varying degrees of immediacy to enhance science news coverage: quick reactions, explainers and analyses. It also offers resources on science communication and news, as well as briefings, all under a Creative Commons licence. SMC Spain's statute ensures its independence and its advisory board, made up of independent volunteer advisors from the fields of science, engineering, medicine, journalism, and communication, provides expertise and guidance. SMC Spain is based in Madrid.
